The biggest challenge we have in Varana is the low ceiling height that spread over four floors. The footprint of each level is long and narrow. Initial surveys confirmed that the false ceilings had limited available space for the lighting due to other services and structural beams. As a result of the low volumetric height, there was a risk that the spotlights in the ceiling would feel too close and claustrophobic. With no time for mock-ups, we had to rely heavily on sectional studies.
These limitations have eventually lead us developing a lighting concept that could provide the correct balance of light below such a restricted ceiling height, whilst providing the flexibility to respond to changing retail displays below for an inviting high end environment.
